John Jones was instrumental in the development of rugby in the province of Quebec. After several years playing for Montreal Irish RFC, John decided to leave the club to set up the St Lambert Locks RFC. Sadly, John passed away in 2010 and a scholarship fund was established in his memory to provide bursaries for up and coming players pursuing post secondary education.

The Montreal Irish and St Lambert Locks have jointly hosted the Montreal Sevens each year since it began in 2011. The tournament is well contested with international teams participating such as the Belgium Barbarians who remain undefeated on Canadian soil. Proceeds from the tournament go towards the John Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Scholarship Fund

The tournaments benefit the John Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund, through the Rugby Canada Foundation, which provides bursaries for up and coming Quebec rugby players pursuing post secondary education. Click on the link above for more information, to apply for a bursary or to donate to the fund.
